•Diagnosis: subacute thyroiditid (de Quervain Thyroiditis)
•Uncommon disease of thyroid with characteristic clinical and pathologic findings
•More commonly affects female patients in 20s-50s
•Etiology: a viral agent is highly suspected, autoimmune may play a role, and genetic association has also been demonstrated
•Clinically neck pain and systemic presentation of viral infection can be seen
•On palpation, the thyroid gland is enlarged, tender and hard
•Typically self-limited clinical course with excellent prognosis
